Research
The Marc Bloch University is a research centre offering a great
number of Humanities fields. The university's research teams work in a large
range of disciplines: from literature to sociology, from languages to arts,
from archaeology to computer graphics, from theology to artistic production
techniques, from philosophy to the development of man.
Each research team interacts with researchers in their field from other universities
and institutions, both on a national and an international level. In the framework
of Eucor, for example, several universities from the Rhine area work together
on various programmes. The purpose of these teams is to accommodate doctoral
students – the young researchers are trained in this way and they work together
on the research programmes of the various teams. Researchers publish their articles
in scientific magazines or other publications edited by Marc Bloch University.
However, these activities are in no way limited to a single discipline and there
is room for ample cross-disciplinary work.
Depending on the disciplines, Marc Bloch’s research teams gather information
in the field. The archaeologists, for example, go on excavations in the region,
but also in Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Syria, etc; and the linguists visit the countries
in which the language they study is spoken. Both Marc Bloch University and the
University library of Strasbourg contain considerable information resources,
particularly in the fields of Religious Science and Antiquity Sciences.
Research at Marc Bloch strives to open its doors to people from outside the
university framework. The university values initiatives that allow the nature
of the work and the results found by the various teams to be made known beyond
the university circles. Marc Bloch equally sees it as their duty to vary the
research fields: they carry out studies, audits, surveys, and provide technical
assistance in fields such as social intervention, human resources, urbanism,
sport and educational management and languages.
The Vice-President of the Scientific Council is in charge of all research. He
is responsible for the coordination, administration and follow-up of all the
programmes registered on a four-year basis.
